Finance FAQ
How leasing and Energy as a Service work with PowerMe.
How does PowerMe leasing work?
You do not buy a PowerMe unit. You lease it. A fixed monthly fee covers the hardware, AI management platform, software updates, maintenance and support. The battery remains our responsibility for the entire contract term. You operate the unit, keep the energy revenue and pay a predictable monthly cost with no capital outlay upfront. It is the same model that has transformed fleet vehicle management and we apply it to charging infrastructure.
What is Energy as a Service and how does it differ from leasing?
Energy as a Service is a fully managed model where PowerMe funds, deploys, owns and operates the charging infrastructure on your site. You provide the location, we do everything else. The energy revenue from charging sessions is shared between PowerMe and the site owner. There is zero capital cost to you, zero operational responsibility and a guaranteed revenue share for providing the land. This model is available for FreeMe containerised installations and is particularly suited to organisations with car parks who want to offer EV charging without taking on the investment or operational complexity.
What is included in the monthly lease payment?
The lease covers the PowerMe hardware unit, the AI battery management platform, all software updates and feature releases, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair, the 10 year battery warranty and access to the PowerMe operator application for scheduling, monitoring and revenue tracking. Energy costs are separate as these depend on your usage pattern and energy tariff. The only variable is how much energy you put through the unit, everything else is fixed.
What happens to the battery over the lease term?
The battery remains PowerMe's asset throughout the lease. If battery performance falls below warranted thresholds during the 10 year warranty period, we replace or refurbish the battery at our cost. Our AI management platform monitors cell health continuously and can predict degradation months in advance, meaning replacements are scheduled proactively rather than reactively. You never have to worry about battery depreciation or end of life costs.
Can I earn revenue from a PowerMe unit?
Yes. On a leasing arrangement, you set your own charging tariff and keep all the energy revenue. Your profit is the difference between what you charge drivers and your energy input cost plus the lease payment. On an Energy as a Service arrangement, PowerMe manages the tariff and operations while you receive a guaranteed revenue share. Either way, a PowerMe unit is designed to generate income from day one.
Are there any government grants available for EV charging?
The UK government has several active funding streams for EV charging infrastructure. The LEVI fund provides £381 million for local authority charging projects. The Workplace Charging Scheme offers grants for business installations. There is a dedicated £10 million fund specifically for off grid EV charging innovation, which aligns directly with PowerMe's technology. Additional programmes through the British Business Bank and National Wealth Fund support green infrastructure investment. PowerMe can advise on which schemes your deployment may qualify for.
What is the minimum lease term?
Lease terms are tailored to each deployment but typically run from 3 to 7 years. Longer terms benefit from lower monthly payments. Energy as a Service agreements for major site installations are typically structured over 10 to 15 years to align with infrastructure investment horizons.
